This Week in Sewing Blogs // vol. 107

Happy Sunday makers! It’s been such a busy, happy week around the studio and I’m thrilled by the response to our new sewing pattern, the Kelly Anorak. My favourite thing to hear from you is “I’ve been looking for this pattern for so long!”, and we heard that a lot over the last few days. It means we’re serving you the way I dream and hope to, which is finding those holes in your closet and filling them with thoughtful, wearable garments that make you feel great.

It’s also Canadian Thanksgiving, and I am spending it with a group of friends and Harry while Guillaume is in France for the weekend. I’m spatchcocking a turkey for the second time (I dry brined it last night) and I have a feeling it will be my best ever. I hope you’re having a  wonderful, productive and/or lazy weekend as well!

ADMIRE

A few Kelly tester coats have been posted – I love Carolyn’s raincoat version (she made it out of a shower curtain!) and Heather’s everyday twill jacket.

Autumn exploded all over Erica’s gorgeous dress.

Jenny’s dirndl dress is deeeeelightful.

This Clare Coat from Lauren is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Seriously, go check out how exquisitely made it is!

Large cups rejoice! Norma at Orange Lingerie just extended her sizing of the Bolyston bra!

Peter’s designer inspired poplin shirt (and styling!) is wonderful.

A fall inspired blazer from Lori.

Sew DIY totally reminded me how much I still want to make the Tea House Dress by Sew House Seven – isn’t it beautiful in red?

Speaking of Sew House Seven; their new sweater pattern looks soooo cozy.

This kente cloth off-the-shoulder top from Sew Urbane makes my eyes happy.

Some pretty indigo dying results from our Kelly Anorak namesake over on Cut Cut Sew.

Everything Mainely Dad makes is wonderful, but this fur backpack takes the cake.

KNITTING

I want to increase my knitting speed so I am going to take this continental knitting class over on Craftsy.

AWESOME

Really inspired by the 67 Percent Project on Refinery 29.

Want to support a great cause? Help this high school sewing class get equipment!

Kate McKinnon: hero.

Solange just released my new favourite record and it equal parts sonic ear candy and weighty, important messaging. And this directed video is probably the most stylish thing I’ve seen all year.

  • YES, the Solange album is awesome. Congrats on the Kelly release!

  • K_Line

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • That pink Clare coat is insane! I need one immediately! Also, congrats on the Kelly Anorak, its exactly what I need :)

  • Happy Thanksgiving Heather!!

  • The pics R29 posts with their workout posts have been so mesmerising!

    • I’ve tried to do model casting and it is absolutely INSANE how hard it is to find both plus sized and like, not size 2 models. This change could not come soon enough!

  • Really, really inspired by the links this week! I need t try to carve out some sewing “me” time this week. Before I forget, Heather, I would put this on my blog but I don’t have quite the same size of audience as you. For next week’s “THIS WEEK…” perhaps?: https://wardrobes.starlightcanada.org/

    • Such an awesome initiative! Thanks Carlee.

  • Martha

Great coat! Could this be underlined for some extra warmth?

  • Ping Mathre

Continental knitting is the best! I’ve never knit the other way before but I can’t imagine being able to go very fast having to wrap the yarn around for every stitch. Just a heads up that some instructions will be “backward” if you’re doing it continental (like SSK and K2TOG).

    • I think it would be nice for projects with lots of stockinette but I’d probably stick with my crazying wrapping method for cabling and whatnot…

  • I also love that Solange video! I love your roundups too. I get to see lots of makes I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

  • Thank you for including my dress! :) :) :)
